Changamwe police arrest their colleague for engaging in crime




Police in Changamwe are detaining one of their own suspected to be indulging in criminal activities within the area.

The officer known as Maxwell Nyongesa is said to have been together with his accomplice Lameck Juma who was also wearing a police smoke jacket and a police trouser despite being a civilian.

Changamwe Sub county police Commander David Matthew confirmed the incident saying it was reported at Changamwe police station that a Boda boda rider was attacked by two people one being a police officer.

The Boda boda rider quickly identified Nyongesa as the two descended on the Boda boda operator.

Nyongesa had been transferred to Daadab police station in Garissa county in 2020 but he has been secretly operating in Changamwe, failing to report to his new work station.

Police inspected his house at Migadini area where they recovered several police uniforms and a teargas canisters

The second person who is not a police officer was also partially in police uniform, with the top security personell in the area trying trying to establish how he acquired police trousers and police smoke jackets which were recovered at his home too.

According to police, Lameck Juma and Maxwell Nyongesa have been terrorising locals in Changamwe extorting money or threatening them that they would arrest and charge them before court if they do not give in to their demands.

The two are being detained at Changamwe police station awaiting to be arraigned in court immediately police complete investigations

Mr. Matthew has asked locals to be very vigilant and report any suspicious character so as to contain the rising insecurity in the area.
